Some more art from Cantor

On some Sundays I take my kids to the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford. We all get a chance to draw or create art. While my kids are drawing I try a few quick studies on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.

Here is a few..

last weeks homework

I bit late but this is my homework submission for Micheal's anatomy class. I did not have as much time to spend on it as I would like, I plan on making up some of that effort this week.

last 3 weeks review

Before diving this weeks lesson on upper body muscles, I wanted to review the previous 3 weeks, just to help make it all stick. Well, it is Thursday so here is some better examples of this weeks efforts, gesture, landmarks and head construction. This is part of me learning to combine each step into the process.

Muscles tomorrow!

Week 3 homework

This week was a challenge because of the amout of new information to absorb in Michael's class  Here is part of my submitted head constructions for this week.

Since I enjoy 3D so much it was neat to explore the forms with perspective primitives. Still lots to learn and practice, as I can see that I have plenty of distortion to resolve that might only be archived though pencil mileage.

Quick update

I managed to squeeze in a few gestures today. I am starting to incorporate some of the later structure and volume steps I learned in week two of Michael's class a bit sooner into my process. During the initial gesture, placing the correct spine curvature is still tricky.

I found a web page that provides quick timed images for gestures, have a look here:

This week is head structure..

Week 2 studies complete

I submitted 6 studies for  this weeks homework, I am curious as to the depth that Michael may provide feedback. Great class so far.

Here is the all the others. I deliberately included within the 6 a couple that I feel could have been better.

On the twelth day..

I am halfway through my homework for the anatomy drawing class. The first half is based upon "old master" painting, sculpture and drawings.

"Old Master" gesture

I did a few quick gestures of some "Old-Master" sculpture, these are the 3 I like the most so far. The body of Jesus in the Pieta was and interesting challenge since it appears lifeless.

This is what I selected from..
Here is few from "Old-Master" drawings..

Re-doing last weeks assignment

I decided to re-do the last weeks assignment, since I feel I did not pay attention to what was required. After the feedback I got from Michael I did ~60 more life gestures today, the top 6 being shown here.

This is an effort pay more attention to the story and flow instead of the silhouette and trying to connect all the parts.

Here is the rest...Lots to learn.

Some homework today

After completing many 1 minute gestures for the Analytical Figure Drawing class, I selected several of the better results to post here.

I am using photo reference images from characterdesigns.com.

I enrolled in Michael Hampton's class "Analytical Figure Drawing" starting on April 20th. After several years working in 3D for Game Development, it is refreshing to get back to the basics.

Last Sunday, I visited the Cantor Arts Center in Stanford with my kids. Since they offer drawing materials to visitors, it seemed like a good opportunity to get started. Here is a few of my kids, a exhibit statue and the horse from a exhibit painting.
